Custody data

This data is about the number of prisoners on remand or serving a sentence in our correctional services system.

On 1 June 2016, there were:

  • 2996 adults in custody in South Australia. This included:
    • 1754 serving a sentence and
    • 1242 people who were on remand
  • Of those serving a sentence, just over three quarters (76%) had an expected minimum time to serve of 12 months or more. Less than 4% were serving an expected minimum sentence of less than three months.
